Jacalin, an alpha-D-galactose binding lectin extracted from Jackfruit seeds, binds with high specificity to human IgA1 and other o-glycoproteins such as mucin or glycopeptides. Jacalin can also be used to separate IgA1 subclass from IgA2. Precautions should be taken while purifying antibodies produced in the presence of bovine serum as Jacalin is capable of binding to bovine glycoproteins, e.g. feutin that may interfere with the purification.
